CIEC/BSA; The March Council Coordinated Meeting Changed to Aprl 22nd!

Our Quarterly Council Coordinated Meeting has been moved from Wednesday, March 25th to Wednesday, April 22nd.

This meeting features Break Out Sessions for District Chairs, Commissioners, District Program Chairs, District Activities and Civic Service Chairs, District Advancement Chairs, District Camp and Outdoor Promotion Chairs, District Membership Chairs and District Training Chairs and Council Committees such as Conservation, Shooting Sports and Aquatics.

The meeting starts at 7:00 pm at the Jack Dembo Scout Center in Redlands.

Summer Camp Staff Work Weekend Party!

This is the group that showed up Saturday, April 11. They did some work down by Elmore Lodge and had a picnic lunch of sandwiches, veggies, and chips with cupcakes and banana crumb coffee cake for dessert. Afterward they moved to the trading post where they painted the trim on the trading post. This was a great group, they had a blast and got a lot of work done.

March 21st Work Party Weekend!

A great Scout Salute of thanks to our great CIEC/Scouters for a great Work Party Weekend on March 21st!

We had 13 motivated people who were a great help!

Things we did...

Painted the trim on the wagon wheel rest room.
Moved the heavy stuff into the new fenced of area by the maintenance shed and organized it better.
Built racks on the back of the maintenance shed for pipe and rebar and such.
and put out most of the platforms so I can start repairing them before the tents go up.

Christa Jenson and Judy Graeber went and pulled most of the curtains out of the cabins to wash/upgrade.

It was a great group and a productive day

Cahuilla Lodge (#45) - Legacy Rocks

One of the many programs being held in 2015 to commemorate the Order’s centennial anniversary is the Legacy Project—a program carried out by individual lodges to leave their mark and preserve their history during the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow. One part of the project is the submission of a rock from each lodge’s local area inscribed with the name of that lodge and the city in which they are located. These rocks will be placed on display at the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conference. Recently, a resolution was adopted by the National Order of the Arrow Committee to allow lodges that are no longer in existence to submit rocks and be represented as “legacy lodges” in the NOAC commemorative display.
 
The National OA Committee has approved a resolution adding engraved rocks for merged, disbanded and otherwise inactive lodges ("legacy lodges") so that they might also be recognized as a part of the Order of the Arrow re-dedication site at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia.  These legacy lodge rocks will be placed in an area near the current lodge rocks.This new opportunity, through which lodges can submit additional rocks on behalf of merged/non-active lodges that came before them, is yet another unique way for Arrowmen to preserve their history in the centennial.

Save the Date: 2015 Scout Expo Adventure

Congratulations Paul Reyes

Please join me in congratulating Paul Reyes, who has accepted to be the Program Director for the new United Los Angeles Area Council in Los Angeles, CA.  Since November of 2011, Paul has served as the District Director for the Old Baldy and Temescal Districts.  Paul has also served as the staff advisor for the Order of the Arrow, Day Camp Committee, and Scouting for Food. Paul started his professional career as a District Executive in the San Gabriel Council in Pasadena CA in March of 2002.  He then moved to the Verdugo Hills Council in Glendale CA in April 2006 where he served as a Senior District Executive.   An Eagle Scout, Paul has been a great advocate of Scouting and we appreciate his contribution and service to the California Inland Empire Council over the last 3 1/2 years.  Paul's last day is May 15.

Paul, thank you for living the Scout Law and Oath everyday!  We will miss you!

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Course May 24th, 2015

Great opportunity for Scouts 15 years of age and older, and Scouters of all ages, to certify as an USA Archery Level One Instructor.

To become, or remain as an Archery Merit Badge Counselor within the CIEC, one must obtain certification as an USA Archery Level One Instructor. As registered Scouters and Shooting Sports Committee members within the CIEC, we offer a BSA discount of the USA Archery Level One Certification Course to qualified registered BSA members.

The standard fee for this course is $68. BSA members whom are currently registered & have a valid YPT cert that will be active for throughout 2015, are eligible for a BSA discounted rate of $50. Attached is a pdf file with details of the course.

Summer Camp Employment Opportunity

Hey Scouts and Scouters, calling all Florence Nightingales and Hawkeye Pierce’s! The Council is looking for a qualified EMT to serve as the Boseker Scout Reservation Health Officer for this year’s Camp Wiley and Camp Emerson.  Salary is negotiable and room and board is provided. If anyone knows anyone please help us spread the word. The period we need help is from June 15th through August 3rd.

Western Region Beach Blowout

A contingent from CIEC Crew 641 traveled to Fiesta Island in San Diego to attend the Western Region Beach Blowout. There were over 200 youth in attendance from all over the 13 western region states. There were also attendees from central region states and a few from other countries. We enjoyed lots of water sports and and fun times meeting Venturers from all over. It was a great time had by all.

Tahquitz Camporee

Tahquitz Camporee – “Scout of the Rings” was held Apr 10-12 while the Ents of Emerson watched with great intrigue. Tree Beard and his kin witnessed just over 400 Scouts and scouters enjoy the weekend with great spirit and merriment. Campsites were adorned with shire décor, amazing towers, and the all-seeing-eye. Scouts and Scouters alike frolicked through camp as hobbitses, wizards, elves and dwarfs. These adventurers journeyed from Legolas’ Challenge (archery), to Gimli’s ax throwing, then off to slaying the fierce dragon Smaug with spears & atlatls, building the two towers, running the mighty obstacle course, traversing the marsh, starting a fire to burn Sauron’s eye, rabbits pulling Radagast in his sled, to weaving their way through Shelob’s entanglement, next a joust by the Ring Wraiths, and finally forming the fellowship through the compass course. SPL’s and Scout Masters ate their way through the pie eating contest, followed by a game of Dragon Tails between the Troops. After the evening awards campfire on Saturday, the OA ceremony team called-out 79 scouts and 9 scouters as Ordeal candidates.

Sunday morning was blessed to have 12 chaplains, one from each Troop, put on a great Scouts-Own service. Included was a “Random act of kindness” where they passed around the hat to collect an offering that was given to needy organizations.

Great job Tahquitz OA Chapter Youth and Adults for running another successful Camporee. And special thanks to all those adults from the various Troops who pitched in to assist the Scouts with running their stations.

Let us not forget the cooking staff, for without them there would have not been second breakfast!

PRAY UPDATE for members of BSA

Faith Based Initiative in Orange County Council

FBI KICKOFF RESULTS IN 22 NEW UNITS (AND 55 REQUESTED FOLLOWUP VISITS)

Orange County Council kicked off an FBI plan...and it is working! The report from the first day of a new unit recruiting program is impressive. But before reading the results from that day, here is some of the background preparation that enabled Orange County to reap the success that it did.

The plan started in January at a board retreat in Orange County Council BSA. The board conclusion was to create and FUND a new Strategic Alliances staff position. Marty Cutrone was promoted into this position. Marty set out to create excitement for targeting Faith Based organizations as new Chartered Organizations.  Mark Hazlewood, CEO of PRAY, was brought in to do the FBI training for staff during the day and volunteers in the evening. With the ground plowed the FBI plan was well received. The staff was then given two weeks to implement the FBI resources and strategies in preparing to make calls on Faith Based Organizations.
